The study, conducted by scientists of Quest Diagnostics (DGX LARGEST:-News), suggests that many women are not examined in accordance with the guidelines, medical and captures it can put themselves and their babies at risk for complications of gestational diabetes.
The study, entitled "Gaps in diabetes screening during pregnancy and the first, also found that only one of five women who develop gestational diabetes while pregnant were screened for diabetes within six months of the completion of their pregnancy. "Regardless of ethnic origin, age, weight or many pregnant women are not examined in accordance with the guidelines on gestational diabetes, a condition that can lead to adverse health effects for the mother and child," said study investigator John m. Nakamoto, M.D., Ph.d., Medical Director, Quest Diagnostics.
"We were particularly alarmed to discover that develop the condition while pregnant women are not be screened for diabetes, despite the overwhelming evidence first, that there is a high risk for developing diabetes later in life," said Dr. Nakamoto. The study assessed the results of testing of de-identified the 924,873 identified as pregnant women aged between 25 and 40 who have been tested by Quest Diagnostics Laboratory. Obese women have the highest risk for gestational diabetes but are least likely to check: women with more than 275 lbs weight during their pregnancy were 12% less likely to be checked, but 348 per cent more likely to have gestational diabetes than those weighing between 100-124 lbs. weight women with the mother of 250 274 lbs was 6 per cent less likely to be checked, but more likely to have gestational diabetes than women in the Group lightweight 300 percent. According to the American College of obstetrics and gynaecology (ACOG) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the weight is one factor in a woman risk for gestational diabetes.
Ethnicity is stronger prognozator gestational diabetes of the mother of mass: positivity rate for gestational diabetes in Asian American women is 8.7 per cent, compared to 4.1 percent for African American women. Maternal weight is approximately 137 lbs in Asia women, compared with 175 lbs African American women. Spanish American women is positivity about 5.4% and the average weight of the mother of 156 lbs. Caucasian American women had to have a degree of 4.2%, with the mother average weight around 163 lbs.

Gestational diabetes mellitus is diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. It occurs in a 4% and 12% of pregnancies. Untreated gestational diabetes increases the risk of pre-eclampsia, premature birth, delivery problems requiring cesarean section and Neonatal hypoglycemia. May be treated by controlling the gestational diabetes glucose with diet, exercise or insulin treatment. Guidelines recommended testing during and after pregnancy include tolerance for oral glucose and blood tests that are widely available through the United States laboratories.
